Cake!

Everyone loves cake, right?   Mmmmm....

Love the colors on the first cake, the drip effect on the second cake (but would have to change colors), and the scroll work on the third cake (again would have to change colors).  The fourth I love because it's just chocolate, even the "topper" is curly chocolate shavings, and the fifth is more traditional, but I like the simplicity.

Our cake actually doesn't really resemble any of these, and I can't find a good picture, but here goes for a description:
4 tiers, square - the bottom tier is navy, second tier is champagne, third tier is navy, and top tier is champagne - all tiers will have a "brain coral" type piping on them in ivory, and topper will be fresh apple-green hydrangeas.  Flavor is almond poundcake, which is delicious (and the same as Paula Deen's, since we got the same baker).  :-)  CAN'T WAIT.

We're also doing a Groom's Cake.  To suit FI's quirks, it's in the shape of a dragon, and we're going to cut it with either a letter opener he has that's actually a small sword or a small dagger, so we can "slay" the dragon.  He cracks me up.  One of FI's groomsmen is an artist, and he drew a picture of a dragon for us that our baker is going to base the cake off of.

Welcome to the Lowcountry...

and while you're here, try the boil!  For those who don't know, this is a dish of shrimp (shells still on), sausage, corn, and new potatoes, with a spicy kick, all boiled in one big pot, then thrown across a table lined with newspaper (if you're really going to be authentic).  This is what we're having for the Rehearsal Dinner, along with a variety of other stuff and a homemade Red Velvet Cake (tradition in my family for my mom to make one of these cakes for the RD).

For the reception we went with guests' choice of Chicken Marsala or Lemon Salmon with whipped potatoes and julienne vegetables.  There's also a vegetarian pasta option and a kids' chicken finger for kiddos under 12.   Salads and rolls are included, as well as coffee service at the table for dessert (CAKE!).  We did end up going with a completely open bar, thanks to my parents insistence and willingness to pay for it.
